Substance Use: Recognizing And Treating Addiction In The Legal Profession — 1.2 New Jersey Ethics Credits

In this one-hour March 14, 2024 program Bruce L. Adelson, Esquire addresses the alarming statistics of substance abuse in the legal profession. Lawyers have significantly higher rates of substance abuse than other professions, with several factors contributing to attorneys being at greater risk. Mr. Adelson explains substance use disorder, provides an assessment framework used to identify severity of substance use, and provides many options for lawyers seeking treatment.

Mr. Adelson is CEO of Federal Compliance Consulting LLC, Potomac, Maryland, and serves as an Adjunct Faculty Member at the University of Pittsburgh School of Law and the Georgetown School of Medicine. A former senior attorney of the United States Department of Justice, he is the ADA Consultant to the Idaho Supreme Court and to the New Mexico Administrative Office of the Courts.
