Ethics: Advance Waivers And Client Consent To Future Conflicts — 1.25 Arizona Ethics Credits

This 1.3-hour program is included in the 4.3-hour compilation course entitled Legal Ethics Roundup (NLF course #549, available in some states). You will earn CLE credit by completing EITHER the individual program listed below OR that compilation. You may not earn CLE credit for BOTH this program and the 4.3-hour compilation.

Obtaining an advance waiver from a client (with their consent to future conflicts) can be very desirable and helpful to an attorney. However, the relevant ethics rules can be a minefield. In this important June 26, 2019 1.3-hour presentation, Patrick M. Connors, Esquire explains those ethics rules and how to comply with them when using advance waivers.

Mr. Connors is a Professor of Law at Albany Law School where he teaches, inter alia, Legal Ethics. He is also a member of the New York State Bar Association's Committee on Professional Ethics and a highly-respected speaker, author, frequent expert witness, and consultant on legal ethics.

Major topics include:
ABA Model Rule 1.7: Conflict of Interest: Current Clients
ABA Model Rule 1.9: Duties To Former Clients
ABA Model Rule 1.10: Imputation of Conflicts of Interest: General Rule
Relevant Comments To ABA Model Rules
State Distinctions
